If you feel something warm and pleasant in the air, that’s the onset of spring, and with it comes the tunes of summer.
These songs are not only meant to invigor the frozen dead heart of winter trapped inside us, but also remind us to be joyful and appreciate the sun.
I call these my May Tunesies!

To help with your spring playlists, I have included some new tunes that have been popping into my head and making their way down to my feet.
As you may know I ‘identify’ with all sorts of music, but the tunes that have been circling my soul for the past decade have been in the Indie/ New Rock, or anything that’s different.

We all like to be a little different don’t we?

Here are some tunes that have made it to my Spotify playlists as of late, even though I LOATHE Spotify.
The app is buggy, there are loads of songs that aren’t even there, and it barely works in social settings.
It also crashes more often than a meth head trying to rob you, which is how it often feels to use.

I have ditched Spotify for the most part, and gone back to good old iTunes. Not only do I get to keep the music and own it, but I also can play it when the wifi goes down, and I don’t have to wait for blank screens to load. Spotify is truly a shit product, but oh well.

Anyway, here is my Spotify channel if you want to hear some of the stuff I am listening to.

20200817 Proud True Toyota-Mac DeMarco

Might as well start this May playlist with a little Canadian content to kick it off.
Otherwise known as Vernor Winfield MacBriare Smith IV from Edmonton, Alberta, Mac Demarco has steadily been putting out inventive and addictive tracks since his mom changed his name because his dad wasn’t paying child support.

20200817 Proud True Toyota might sound like a Craigslist ad, but it softly pulls you in and lets you marinate in a sweet buttermilk sauce before deep frying you crispy with some great hooks.

Have a listen and get your Canadian funk on!

Rescued-Foo Fighters

It’s been an emotional year for the Foo’s after the tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Not to wallow or smite the memory of Taylor, the band is back at it with a new album coming out in June called ‘But Here we Are’.

‘Rescued’ is the first track to be released by the FF’s and it smacks of hard guitars and pure soul from Grohl, in an emotional power ballad sure to fire up any 90s’ kid.

This is sure to be the song that has you queueing up for Foo Fighter tickets this summer.

Running with Our Eyes Close-Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit

Country fans will recognize Jason Isbell from his spell with the ‘Drive By Truckers’, but its been his solo work as of late that has been bringing all the international acclaim.

Named after the psychiatric ward from a local hospital, ‘The 400 Unit’ is comprised of some of Alabama’s great solo rockers who came together to engineer some great albums as of late.

You might recognise Isbell from his voice work on Squidbillies as well, but it’s this new album ‘Weathervanes’ that will be coming out in June 2023, that has the track ‘Running with our Eyes Closed.’

A great little country ditty to get you ready for cleaning off the patio furniture.

The song is also part of a new HBO special on Isbell ‘Titled Running with Our Eyes Closed’ that looks at the making of his 2020 album ‘Reunions’.

The song is a few years old, but might be new to some of you.

Break for You-Valley

Another great Canadian band Valley is ready to spurt out their second studio album this summer called ‘Lost in Translation’ and this kid couldn’t be more excited.

Canucks have a tendency to get nostalgic over ‘Canadiana’, and this band ticks all the boxes on this exciting new sophmore release.

Here is a little taste to get you ready for their new album.
